Local Events
West Fork Aquatic Workshop
On July 19th Haywood Waterways Association and Haywood Community College invites the public to discover the amazing aquatic life living in the West Fork Pigeon River. Participants will rotate through three stations where they will learn about the local fish and benthic communities. Snorkeling gear, underwater viewing boxes, and nets will be provided.
The event is free for members and a $5 donation for nonmembers. Haywood Waterways' memberships start at $25.
The event is part of Haywood Waterways’ “Get to Know Your Watershed” series of outdoor recreation activities. The organization works to maintain and improve Haywood County's waterways through education, citizen engagement, and partnerships.
The workshop will be held from 12:00 – 2 pm. Participants will meet at the Jukebox Junction Soda Shoppe (6306 Pigeon Rd, Canton, NC 28716). Please park at the top of the hill and walk down to the picnic tables behind the restaurant. Youth under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please leave pets at home.
